Caring for Your Leather Sofa

If you have a leather sofa, then you know how lucky you are. Leather furniture is a great investment today. Leather is an elegant fabric that looks great in any setting, whether it’s a classic designed living room or an old-world bedroom. However, when you have a leather sofa, it does tend to experience more wear and tear. Unlike leather headboards or even leather desks and armchairs, these sofas bear a lot of weight from different people and they can be used for sitting down or for napping. That’s why it’s crucial for people who own leather sofas to invest in their care as well.

First, make sure the sofa is not placed in direct heat or sunlight. This can cause it to fade, which looks especially ugly if you only place on side of the sofa on the sun, as this will make it fade unevenly. If you must put it near the sun, install some sheer curtains to block out UV rays. Definitely don’t put it near a heat source, like a vent or fireplace. Next, make sure you dust it regularly and wipe up spills immediately. Finally, there’s one thing you should do periodically that’s very important. Invest in a good conditioning oil or leather polish. Usually, this polish or oil must be wiped all over the leather with a soft cloth, but follow the directions on the bottle to be sure. Applying this special chemical will ensure that the leather remains soft and supple for years to come.
